1914 UAV Team Soars to the TEKNOFEST UAV Competition Finals
The 1914 UAV Team is the sole university team from Balıkesir province to represent the region at the International UAV Competition, which will take place in Kocaeli from September 8–12, 2025.
The team is named after the year 1914, a milestone in Turkish aviation history that marked the first Europe-Asia-Africa transcontinental flight. This historic journey also led to the tragic loss of the first martyrs of Turkish aviation. In a related historical event, the residents of Edremit donated the "Edremit Aircraft" to the Aeronautics Society, a contribution that helped spearhead the national aviation initiative.
Retired aircraft technician Fahrettin Gökmen serves as the team's technical advisor. The pilot and all team members are students from Balıkesir University's Edremit School of Civil Aviation.
The 1914 UAV Team successfully advanced through the initial report stage, beating out approximately 329 other teams. They then gained a significant advantage in the second stage, scoring an impressive 89.3 points for their preparation and mission video. This remarkable performance secured them the 4th rank among the 19 finalist teams that qualified for the International UAV Competition.
